Description
Discover the fountain-wash of Concise, Place de la Fontaine, blooming in the spring and enriched by an interesting chapel with a fresco classified historical heritage!
Concise is one of the old hamlets that were attached to Thonon during the extension of the city ... It is now a full-fledged district of Thonon, but it has preserved its chapel, its place, its wash, its village atmosphere ... and its stamp!
Nestled in the heart of the hamlet of Concise, La Chapelle already existed in the eleventh century. Damaged following the invasion of the Bernese in 1536, it was rebuilt on the orders of Saint Francis de Sales. The chapel consists of a single nave (11 meters by 6 meters), and a rectangular apse (4 meters by 6 meters). These two parts are separated by a triumphal arch.
In the choir is a mural dating from the end of the 13th or beginning of the 14th century (discovered in 1976 during renovation works) depicting the demolition of Saint-Jean Baptiste.
It is the only painting of this period known in the region, making the transition between the fresco Allinges (XI) and the important remains of the fifteenth century Abondance and Annecy.
